Health & Hygiene
For the past two decades, SNSF has been the implementation partner for important governmental healthcare programmes like Mother NGO for Reproductive and Child Health, Janani Suvidha Yojana, National Rural Health Mission’s Urban Reproductive and Child Health, among others. These partnerships have helped SNSF reach out to the underserved and unserved populations living in difficult, hilly and largely arid regions of the country, as well as urban slums.
Addressing the healthcare needs of the industrial workforce, raising HIV/AIDS awareness, imparting information pertaining to safety guidelines, worker rights and ergonomics are the salient features of SNSF’s activities in this area. Supplier to leading global garment retailers like GAP, large construction sites like Punj Lloyd (involving ~3,000 workers) and several MSMEs have lent a helping hand to SNSF in this vertical.
In partnership with the AIDS control societies of Mumbai, Himachal Pradesh and Haryana, Since the early-2000s, SNSF has been raising awareness about the causes and preventive methods of venereal diseases among high-risk groups like truckers, migrant workers and commercial sex workers. Usage of mobile health vans combined with street plays communicating health-related information has been the go-to strategy for SNSF’s health outreach initiatives.
Associations
An estimated 24% of the total ANAND CSR spend is on healthcare initiatives, comprising health camps and building / maintaining hospitals. SNSF is supported by ANAND companies, Henkel Germany, GE Capital, Punj Lloyd, Reliance Haryana SEZ and Sona Koyo.
India stands 187th of 194 countries in terms of healthcare (Source: World Health Organisation), making healthcare spending a priority. Several multilateral agencies have supported the Government of India’s endeavour to promote health. SNSF partnered the government, working with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The Foundation delivered projects under NRHM and the state governments’ AIDS control programmes. International foundations (including UNDP and UNFPA) support SNSF in this endeavour.
SNSF forged long-standing associations with several organisations (domestic and international). The Centre for Development and Population Activities (now Centre for Catalysing Change, {C3}) and the International Finance Corporation are two such associations in the area of healthcare. C3 works extensively in the areas of reproductive and child health, a focus area of SNSF.
